OH and Loehamnn's also owns my FAVORITE online sample sale site the Rue La LA

You should know that....smartbargains.com is Loemann's online.... COOL HUH?

"The world of off-price retailing is really about serving the treasure hunter: a consumer who likes to search for a great item at a great price by a fabulous brand. So a big part of the experience is going to the store and hunting, not going online and flipping through Web pages," says Madison Riley, strategist at Kurt Salmon Associates. "But for Loehmann's, this is one strategic thrust that's a good move."

Loehmann's puts bargains online
By Lorrie Grant, USA TODAY
Off-price retailer Loehmann's (LHMS) will begin selling its fashionable women's clothes online, becoming the first in its retail sector to venture there.
The 83-year-old retailer announced Wednesday that it will team with online discount retailer SmartBargains, which will handle fulfillment and shipping. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"With SmartBargains, merchandise from Loehmann's will be offered to many new consumers who share a keen interest in upscale apparel at discount prices," says Loehmann's CEO Robert Friedman. Loehmann's operates 48 stores in 17 states, with a concentration in California.

Loehmann's sees the deal as a way to broaden the appeal and customer base of the value retail sector to younger consumers.

"Doing business online opens new doors for a company like Loehmann's to more effectively reach younger consumers, since they are increasingly turning to the Web as part of the shopping process," says Dan Hess, analyst at online market research firm ComScore Networks.

Off-price retailers buy assortments of brand-name, fashion-oriented merchandise, including overstocks, from vendors who typically sell to mainstream merchants. They then resell the goods at discounts often ranging from 30% to 65%. In addition to apparel and accessories, the goods often include home fashions, fragrances, shoes and toiletries.

Other top off-price merchants include Syms, Ross, Tuesday Morning and TJX subsidiaries T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, A.J. Wright and Bob's Stores.

Despite the success of their bricks-and-mortar businesses, they have avoided electronic commerce.

Their expertise is buying wisely and running their stores on the cheap — devoid of fancy fixtures and stylish displays and other costly overhead — to maintain profits on narrow discount margins.

Teaming with an existing Internet retailer could allow Loehmann's to add another way of selling, without the expense and risk of creating fulfillment centers and back-office operations.

Consumers can access the Loehmann's selection of dresses, suits, active wear, sweaters, coats and jackets, as well as formal merchandise from its "Back Room" on the SmartBargains site (www.smartbargains.com). There is a link from the Loehmann's promotional site.

"(This alliance) joins two like-minded retailers that serve similar audiences and provides a vehicle for both companies to generate potential growth," says Carl Rosendorf, CEO of SmartBargains.

Returns will be handled by SmartBargains only. Customers will have 30 days to return merchandise for a full refund of the product price.

SmartBargains has similar partnerships with furniture retailer Bombay and slipcover maker Sure Fit.

The Loehmann's deal ramps up its competition with off-price online rival Bluefly (www.bluefly.com).

It will be a new world for the Loehmann's customer.

Fringed long skinny scarves

Ninette

C'mon subsribe to the blog sisters!

Who this blog is for...."My people"

There are a ton of blogs on fashion, style on a budget, and ceelb. fashions...my goal is that this blog is different because it is aimed at girls living a life similar to mine, that shop at similar stores and have a similar taste. You know what I mean? If I go to this baby shower today I am sure to see three pairs of sandals that would die for.....five bags that I will think about all night, and thirty-two dresses, all of which I would wear. There is just a certain style that goes with what I call "me people". "My People" live here, there, and every where but I recognize them because they wear Ella Moss, Michael Stars, really cute jeans ususally premium, darling sun dresses, cool accessories...but not too over the top. Although I appreciate (GREATLY) those of you that can pull off the really "cool" fashions....most of "my people" are just a little more laid back. Flip flops are a staple, cute sweats and long tanks are what we live in, and we buy our clothes at Fred Segal, M Frederick, boutiques in Manhattan Beach (like Third Gallery), Savvy at Nordstrom and online on SHop Bop.com (well not me- but "my people do"). There are a whole bunch of my people that shop like I do and look just liek the rest of "my people" thats those of us that do love SHop Bop and Nordies, but for reason of GIANT MORTGAGES, high cost of child care, staying home wiht the kids, or working hard to make it all work, or just do not want to spend all their cash at the mall......shop for the deals on all the clothes we all love. Actually there are always a few of "me" in your groups...the one girl who when you say, "I love your dress" they reply with , "Thanks I got it at Target." The rest of her people will say , "DON'T TELL." But the girls liek me are ADDICTED TO THE GAME of getting her people's look on a bargain so she will have to tell you that her new BCBG dress for the shoer cost $29 (marked down from $230.

OK...so I hope you appreciate what I am doing here...because this is for "my people"...I see you girls in line at Starbucks, or at the library with the kids.... and I know that we can tlak about your daughter's ADORABLE L.A.M.B. shoes...and then when you tell me they were half price at Little Moon...well, then I know we are kindred souls....

SO, that's why this blog is different, its for just the right kind of girl....and if you stay a while and browse around you will be able to tell if that girl is you...and if you are on of "my people" subscribe to the blog so I can feel some inspiration to write and dig for the deals...

XOXOXOXO

HOW TO FIND THE DEALS and how I feel about that!

If life were truly fair, then freakin Lindsy Lohans and Angelinas of our world  (who by- the -way make as much as I do as a veteran teacher in one day) would be paying full price for their Jimmy Choos and the teachers and do gooders of the world would be getting La Rok dresses mailed to them daily.....  But, as we all know life is not fair, so for those of us with incredible taste and a strong sense of personal style we are faced with some important decisions as we become "real" adults.  Do we save for the mortgage, a great vacation, or the kids' college fund ? But, wait what about my need for the new fall fashions.  My unfulfilled ego that must have the latest premium denim, even though you 30 something self is only going to "rock the jeans" on the playground or at Ralphs.

Oprah did a show on this affliction lately, the 30 something, spray tanned, Starbucks drinking, True Religion wearing, mom of two was shopping non-stop and opening credit cards to pay credit cards. Her husband was, of course, the last to know (duh?) and the show ended with a financial planner suggesting they sell the LA home (which by the way was about to go into foreclosure) and move to Seattle.

So, here is my point. You do not have to lose the house to look hot if you live in LA! In fact, I think you can be the dressed best bitch on the block, or the hottest guy in the bar with just a few small changes to the WAY you shop.

There are ENDLESS opportunities to buy amazing clothing in LA.  I have so much to share that I am not really sure where to start.  I know, I know, some of you do not want to deal.  But, there are those of you out there....the few, gifted and talented shoppers that just need a little information to make it work.  Those of you that are big fans of the brands we all love at Shop Bop, Nordstrom, or Barneys.  We are actually doing the clothing lines a service, much like the celebs.  We style their clothing and it looks hot, and so when someone asks you about your dress you simply say, "thank you, yes it's BCBG".   See, we support our designers and save our marriages at the same time!

Tip Number One

I am going to start with some breaking news.....  The new fad of on online, invite only, high-end designer sample sales is the frickin Holy Grail of online budget shopping. I have found my ways into Rue La La which is Loehman's  brand new, and I think amazing, online, invite only sample sale.  They have a Juicy sample sale starting tomorrow!  The last sale they had for DIOR and GUCCI they were selling $300 glasses (brand new styles) for $150. HAUTELOOK is my other new favorite secret! This online sample sale was pretty amazing. This week they featured TEA clothing for kids and a handful of other designers for women.  I am also a member of the Editor's closet and thats pretty cool but not as well-known designers.  If you get a random email from a friend inviting you to join, just sign up, its free, and you will have it when you need it!

Tip Number Two

If you love shoes then you need to love Amazon.com. Seriously, just check it often and always for your favorite brands.  I think it is much like the stock market.  One day I see a pair of FRYE boots for $350 the next day they are $100, then the next day they are back up again.  Amazon.com sells for many different vendors but what I noticed is that Amazon.com proper has the best sales and they seem to post almost illegal deals at times.  There is a simple and foolproof plan for you r Amazon.com shopping strategy.  Log on and go to shoes, pick your gender, scroll all the way down (on the left), right now they are having an extra 20% off sale so its in the middle of the page,  click on your shoe size, and then sort low to high or high to low.  You can scroll though by brands, percentage off, color or style.  I have seen so many deals that I could not share!  Just checked it for you and I found Betsey Johnson Slides for $49 marked down form over $200, her were several beautiful shoes by Antik Denim and 2 For All Mankind, and many many more.  Honestly, I have NEVER checked the site without seeing something I should tell someone about!

OK...that's enough obsessing for one day!  Stay tuned...and if you get bored check out the clearance rack at TJ MAXX its going off!

Subscribe to my post to learn more!

What the world needs now....

Is..... more online sample sales..OMG!

Weekend Update...true religion jeans $119

www.smartbargains.com HAS TRUE RELIGIONS for $119...the JOEY in good colors...NO LIE!  and do not ask me how or why I know this...but this is LOEHMAN'S online store....so why drive all over town and BTW with gas costing $5 a gallon...get online and buy these....there is a TON of other stuff too...sorry new MAC computer...o not know how to save pics and websites yet...

I KNOW I KNOW the Barney's sale..blah blah blah...I found it totally over priced...and to tell you the truth.... the deals are NOT that great...  and really its one of those things that USED to be SO cool...but with sample sales down the street and online (more on that in a second), Juicy, and La Rok at TJ Maxx...well, why drive all the way up there....  (assuming you are also in the south bay)...listen sisters...if you have good taste no need to go so far from home... unless of course you are going to the MArt...well, then thats another story all together...

OK...back to the really GOOD news.... OK...I have found the frickin Holy GRAIL of online shopping...its these online 2-day sample sales.... I just got myself an invite to a few...and am working on a third... email me if you want an invite...ans yes, shame on me...I would get a referral fee....that is IF you buy...but its free..and its awesome...I jsut saw that brand Tea for kids...and they have dresses for $10...and Juicy goes on sample sale in two days on another!! OH YEAH BABY!

OK..around town.... scored AGAIN...but this time...at OK OK OK you will be shocked...are you sitting down... at GOODWILL on Torrance Blvd. Among my finds.... Juicy sweats just about brand new (gave them to my cute babysitter that we love-she was thrilled) for $2, Hurley and Quiksilver shirts for the little guy..and a JUNK FOOD sweatshirt! OMG! Not to mention I got this organizer thingy for the kids rooms, an awesome new in box Target serving tray for chips (you know the cute basket ones), and more....

OK... insomnia wearing off,,,,goodnight!

Ninette.....

and for you wondering about the name....it's my BELOVED grandma's nic-name.... so SHUT UP already!

Amazon.com is jsut like the STOCK MARKET

OK...I am not sure WHY but the Amazon.com Deals go up and down like the stock market (or lately housing market). Sometimes I buy a shoe for $20-$40 and the NEXT DAY its back up to $100. SO... I will post a product or two under my favorites... WATCH the price and buy it when its LOW. I put the Lelly Kelly boots I just got for the little gal on there...and of course they are showing up for $91 now when I bought at $37... SO..if you love a certain brand...check it often..OR wait for me to catch it...then Buy it while its HOT.

That's the key buy a little bit all the time...and always under $30-$40 and you will be ahead of the game...

SOUTH BAY SHOPPING

Hi....I called this shopping in LA because I travel outside of my South Bay Bubble as often as I can to find the deals...but more often than not there is no need! I have created this site for several reasons...but ONE BIGGY...most of the other sites on shopping in LA focus on LA proper...not the South Bay. I also noticed a lask of like minded deal searchers on websites that advertise that they will give you the "scoop" on the deals... A ton of the deals I find are for me...but I get equal JOY from finding designer duds for the tots and for the hubby too... so I will post those often... If you find hip deals in the South Bay (or LA) and would like to share, please post your finds under the Monthy log of my shopping finds.... I think there are a ton of sites out there...but if you and I have the same taste (M Frederick, Savvy, Fred Segal, Shop Bop, etc...) then join the blog so I do not feel that I am writing this for myself...and also we can share our secret finds!

How to FIND the deals in Marshalls, ROSS, and TJ MAXX

OK....

My friends tell me they HATE these stores...I am here to tell you why it is worth the several minutes to stop into these stores often and frequently...it is PAINLESS and you will find deals that will make any shopping addict feeling like they just won the Lotto!

#1 SKIP the reg. racks (unless you have an hour +) run in and look for those BIG RED CLEARANCE SIGNS. Stop, find you needed size (kids, hubby, you??) and look for the labels... once you start to know the brands you can quickly sift through the Liz Claiborne, Ralph Lauren, and Limited stuff and find your fashion FINDS...

Start small....look for premium denim.... look for brands like Joe's, Seven for All Man Kind (DO NOT BE so silly as to fall for those "SEVEN" jeans from some random mall store), Paper Denim and cloth, Juicy, Joie (I think I spelled that right?), etc... I think that the Seven for All Mankind jeans are still over priced for clearance,,,but keep looking...I just found the Juicy Linen Pants (I already scored) in there for $30... some of the brands are so high end that you may not even know them.... It seems that TJ MAXX and MARSHALLS get a TON of their jeans from Neiman Marcus. If you want to do your homework.... go on Neiman Marcus online site and print out the brand sheet.... tuck it in your purse....

OH...and DO NOT try this at ROSS in WOMENS' ...there is a TON of (sorry but ...) Crap int he womens' dept. lately... BUT, ROSS has a ton of surfer girls clothing...Billabong, Roxy, etc... Great place for tanks, sundresses, ts, and sweats! If your man wears those surfer boy brands check the mens' scene.... great finds there...AMZING deals!

THE BEST HEALTH DEAL.... pricey but best sunscreen in the nation

OK... I think that deals ARE important but "Every Cosmo Mom" knows that we MUST beware of all the crazy chemicals and products we are putting in and on our childrens' sacred bods...well I went on an internet search for the BEST sunscreen...one with the LEAST scary chemicals and the BEST coverage....well, this BADGER sunscreen is rated the BEST sunscreen in the nation by the Environmental Working Group (EWG). They are an independent "GREEN" non-profit that seems to be the most unbias opinion on the web. Most other "best sunscreen" studies and polls )if you look closely) have a Dr. or sponsor with funding from a MAJOR pharm. company with vested interest.....so I found WAY TOO MUCH info. But in the end I special ordered a case of this Badger sunscreen and my friends all paid me back...it smells amazing and feels food too... its active ingr. is Zinc (but its Micro. particles) so it goes on white (like the #2 CA Baby sunscreen) BUT it fades away.... its also waterproof...OH...and yes MICRO particles are scary too...BUT...from my (non medical research) it seems that ZINC is a metal found in our body (and vitamins) so even if it did get in the sunscreen...which the research shows it does not...it would not hurt you or your kids!

SO there!

Welcome to my first post how I spend under $200 a month on designer brands!

Shopping in LA...

First, a little bit about me... I LOVE designer brands they are amazing quality, wear WAY better over time, and face it you look much HOTTER in a pair of Joes Jeans then in a pair of Mossimo jeans for that big night out on the town! The reason I am starting this blog is to share my secret.....shhhhhhhh ...... the Joe's Jeans I bought were MUCH cheaper than the pair I saw at Target! So, I do LOVE target, but why would I buy jeans for $40 there when I can buy a pair of Joes Jeans for $30? The answer, for most of you with a strong sense of the pulse of fashion, is you KNOW you would buy the Joe's Jeans!

So.... I am going to FINALLY purge all my favorite tips for shopping in LA. If you are reading this and you are NOT in LA...no worries, you can also find some AMAZING deals online and also in chain stores (that I will mention FREQUENTLY) like Marshalls, TJ MAXX (my favorite), and even ROSS.

I am budgeted $200 a month for all my personal needs. No, not a kids, a wife who LOVES shopping but lives in a home with a big ol' mortgage and lots of kids and bills! Most months I spend about $100 on clothing and my closet is full of great trendy pieces, classic designer favorites, and fun finds!

My favorite brands are Joe's Jeans, Danang, C&C, La Rok (although own only a few pieces), all premium denims (Paper Denim and Cloth, Ed Hardy -I like the jeans not the shirts-, J Brand, TAG +, and the usuals True Religion and 7 for All Mankind and much more). For children I love Flowers by Zoe, (or is it for Zoe-I always forget) 2B Free, Splendid, Roxy, Quiksilver (all the surfer clothing), Umi shoes (and the other Euro shoes too Naturino etc.), a local favorite Whimsy Ranch, premium denim for kids, and more.....

YEP....I buy all this for under $200 a month! I have a rule, I never (EVER) spend over $40 for one piece of clothing. I have broken my rule only a few times and only by about $20 max.. Mostly, on average, I spend $30 or less on an item (and it is 80% of the time a designer brand).

Ok.... so now you get an idea of who I am and my passion/obsession....

I will post my finds as I purchase and hopefully you can share with me any great finds or tips too!!

Happy shopping!!
